About the painting

This piece is the first in a series of 7 that explores our understanding and perceptions of art that we believe we know and understand but in reality have only seen replicated. Van Goch painted 7 sunflower paintings in his life. They are all different sizes, compositions and colours yet we class them as one painting.

This version is exactly the same dimensions as the original F457 which is in the Seiji Togo Memorial Sompo Japan Museum of Art, Tokyo. It uses completely different colours, materials and application methods to the original, and yet it is still instantly recognisable and we beleive we know it.
